Kevin arrived late on Thursday, March 19th - Bob picked him up at the airport (plane was late leaving Vancouver, late arriving Hong Kong - Air Canada, anyone?). After 14 hours, and no tv onboard, he got to our little flat about 10 pm, and was so great to see him! We had no plans (yes, Kev, that was deliberate!!), and spent a great week of our first Spring Break week off, visiting new places, and exploring our city with him. So much fun - it was hard to say goodbye today (March 29th) - I hope you had fun, Kev - enjoy the pictures!
Tour of the Ap Lei Chau promenade (by our flat), some kind of chinese festival was underway at the time.
Our favorite ferry from Ap Lei Chau across the harbour into Aberdeen!
Kinda squishy in the flat - but we had room for Kev!
Next day, Friday, Kev facilitated a basketball camp with Bob - skills building, etc. - lots of kids looking forward to NEXT year...
Bob and I took Kevin into the city to see the street markets, etc. - raining a bit (first rain in months - he must have brought it with him!)
Everything from hair product to live prawns - must be Hong Kong!
Stanley Market - looking for Canada rugby jerseys for the two McMillen boys
Found one - ready for the rugby game at the end of the week!
Pet toilet area at our flat - good luck...
We took Kevin across on the famous Star Ferry from Hong Kong Island across the water to the mainland, "Kowloon-side" as they say here.
Just like home!
The girls were thrilled to see Kev - yes, we had room!
Oh yeah, we also celebrated Easter Sunday morning - Sarah has never looked better! Come on, the Easter bunny has come to Hong Kong!!!
Our beautiful girls on Easter Sunday morning - 10am -
Authentic junk travelling the waters between Hong Kong Island (in the distance) and Kowloon
Kevin looking along the Avenue of the Stars for a familiar name - we found Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee and Chow Yun Fat
Hong Kong Island behind the boys
Coming into the ferry terminal - this is the site of a few famous James Bond movies - Goldfinger among them
Hong Kong Island from Kowloon-side
Next day, Bob took us to the greatest little village, Shek O - to experience the amazing beach, clean air and blue skies! Two double decker buses later, we arrive at this incredible little place on the north coast of Hong Kong Island. All tiny flats, in bright coloured buildings, quaint restaurants, exclusive homes (all walled), and an incredible beach. Not to mention the Thai restaurant - and an amazing dinner. Green Thai seafood curry, beef and shanghai noodles, chicken, mango with chesnuts and good chinese beer!
Beautiful weather to visit Shek O!
First time in the sun in Hong Kong for a while!
Movie night and dinner at the flat!
Shopping at the street market in Fa Yeung, Mong Kok - almost had Kevin and Bob convinced to buy the green track suits for halloween!
Picture of Shek O beach while hiking the Dragon's Back trail next day - Bob, Kevin and Dave McMaster
Beach at Shek O
Bob and Kevin went with Dave McMaster and his two sons - 15 km ending up at Shek O village and dinner at the Thai restaurant again - might be one of the favorite places to go in Hong Kong
Beach at Shek O
Wandering through the village, including through the back yards, and alleyways in Shek O. No one minded our peaking, very friendly locals!
Bob and the girls took Kevin to see Ocean Park - the standard photo in front of the shark aquarium!
Lots of rides for kids of all ages!
On the way to Shek O - a private golf course that no one was using..
Bob and Kevin sneaking onto the course - Bob trying out his pseudo wedge...
Coming into Shek O from the Dragon's Back
All the pandas were up and about at Ocean Park that day!
Kevin and the panda beyond
And the roller coasters of course! We can see this one from our flat looking across the harbour of Ap Lei Chau to Ocean Park
Meg and Kevin at the back!
And another highlight - getting a chance to go to the Hong Kong Rugby 7s tournament - the largest event in the city. We spent Kev's last day, sitting in the stands at Hong Kong stadium, enjoying being a part of this massive event - great rugby, great friends and good beer! To see more pics - keep going down the family blog - we posted a separate one just for this tournament!
Kev's bedroom!
And after the tournament, Kevin wanted to go back to Lan Kwai Fong to see how busy it gets during the 7s tournament. One of thousands.....
Rat Alley at Lan Kwai Fong -
Shot of the stadium for the HK Rugby Sevens - good fun with a good friend! Thanks, Kev - it was magic!
