Hong Kong Rugby 7s tournament March 2008

The Hong Kong Rugby Sevens Tournament - the biggest annual event in Hong Kong, and the biggest Rugby Sevens tournament in the world -and we were there! The best way to describe it, as Bob says - "rugby meets the Mardi Gras". Teams from all over the world, competing over three days - each match last approx 15 minutes - great games, good rugby! We watched the womens final match (US vs Canada) - we got stomped!, and our mens team take on the UK - we got stomped! Watched teams from Tunisia, to Fiji, to Wales, Scotland, Sri Lanka, New Zealand Blacks (amazing), and the hated French.... So much fun, sitting in the Hong Kong Stadium outdoors, great weather, good food, great friends, good beer! Spectators all dressed up and ready to pose! Kev McMillen spent the week with us, and this was our Friday, March 28th - couldn't have had a better day!

Final score 21 Us, CAD 7

The McMaster family - Mitchell ready for the cameras!

Kev and his programme - reading material for the flight back!

Ciaran Hearn - from Concepcion Bay, NFLD - sat with Bob and Kevin at lunch the day before - Canada Chamber of Commerce hosted the team for annual fundraiser for the rugby program.

Heartbreaker - he fumbled the ball at the end zone, and recovered by the UK player - but the try was overruled. This player plays professionally in France, but represents Canada at this tournament.

The entrance to the stadium - just follow the crowds!

And after the games are over for the day - Bob and Kevin off to Lan Kwai Fong for a beer - with the other thousands..... kegs being opened every minute!
Yes, thousands....!
