Our visit to Stanley Market on Day was amazing :) We took a mini bus which careened around corners along the coast to the beaches district past Repulse Bay to Stanley. Repulse Bay was where the Japanese accepted the surrender of the British in 1944. It's called the Fall of Hong Kong. The beaches are white and the water is so green - we were all reminded of Cadeques in Spain.
The promenade extends for miles and the Murray House, which was a British govt building and was subsequently dismantled and rebuilt brick by brick on the promenade, is really beautiful. There is such a colonial influence here which is at odds, it seems, with the temples and the skyscrapers. Such a diverse city, so much to see all the time.
Stanley market is a busy little commerce with lots of shops selling everything from sunglasses which take pictures (Rowan loved that one) to bags to jade tigers. We had lunch at a british style pub and then wandered through for the afternoon. We're going to go back on Wednesday to make sure we've brought everything back to remind us of our wonderful visit to this beautiful city :)
