Experience Week in New Zealand - Bob and Meg, Nov 2009

Stay tuned for notes from Bob and Meg!

Experience Week in China - Sarah Nov 2009

This was really cool, me and a red panda, he didn't have a name but we fed him apples and he was very happy about that. Thinking about it right now, I actually I am not sure if it was a boy or a girl... anyways, this was a very cool experience.

This was the scenery around our work site in the northern part of Sichuan

More scenery shots, I love the colours, the trees, the autumn sensations.

This was at a non-governmental museum in Sichuan. We did more site-seeing after our 3 days of toilet building. Each hand-print is dedicated to the Chinese soldiers that fought in WWII, and the Sino-Japanese wars.

The site was still in the midst of construction and development but this was by far the best museum I have ever been to. It was huge, and covered so much Chinese History, i wish we could have stayed longer. I know Dad would have loved to have gone.

Chinese Peking Opera Masks - being goof balls, i am the one on the right.

Juls and I, still being goofs like usual. This was in a park in Cheng Du (the major city of Sichuan, they even have starbucks with their own "Cheng Du" mugs with a panda on it.) - i bought one :)

This was in one of the ancient cities that has been preserved over the years. There was still many people living in it, doing their day to day activities. Oh, and a lot of small dogs just hanging around. This was taken when we were taking a lunch break before our bike ride through the country-side.

Kung Fu with the master, he totally kicked my bumb, You can see Maren in this photo, she was SOO good.

Kung Fu with the master

This was at the non-governmental museum again, this was the coutryard of 100 heroes. Deng Xiaoping, Ma0, etc. Very very cool.

Being a goof ball, so many pandass

Panda Bears!! They are soo cute. The Cheng Du Panda Sanctuary is the biggest in the world (i think) and it is still expanding. They breed pandas and attempt to send them back into the wild, but that is very difficult, the survival rate is never very good. But they provide a simulated wild environment for the cuties that live happily and comfortably. Gosh they are sooo darn adorable.

This picture was taken at the hotel we stayed at while we did our toilet building in the northern part of Sichuan. It was a natural Hotspring -smelled bad, but nice and warm for that below 0 degrees weather that us Hong Kongers were not ready for :)

Looks like a chimney but that is the wall i built for our toilets. SOO Proud!

Making the wall with the mortar and bricks. We made our own mortar, and we lay the bricks ourselves. Thats Kenneth that is underdressed in my opinion.

Examining our awesome wall :)

We went to see a chinese variety show. Peking Opera, gymnastics etc. Very entertaining, no english, but very tourist directed

That was the hostess of the evening, very beautiful dress.

Juls and I on day 1 at a temple in Cheng Du, i can't remember the name of the temple right now but I always love going to them.

Janice and I in the Old Street, doing the tourist thing. She is holding onto a rooster candy that a man made for us. He would similar to glass blowing, mould the liquid candy and thin it out, then blow into the shape he constructed like blowing up a baloon and Voila - Candy rooster. He was very talented, and could do all the animals of the Zodiac. The candy was nasty but very fun to watch.

Group Photo in the temple - spot the girl in yellow

Bike riding in the country-side

NO! - I did not fall off my bike this time. Actually there were about 3 that didn't know how to bike so they followed in the bus behind us. I was in the group of "Experienced Riders" I felt like i redeemed myself some how for falling those two times this summer.

Panda Reserve, it had actually been given the UNEP Global 500 award a few years ago. I bought meg a panda stuffy and the money went towards their foundation.

Panda again.

He was my new bff from the week.

Making our CDNIS Mark on our toilet in Sichuan. I wrote the English and Adrienne behind me, wrote it in Chinese. Very Cool.

Group 3's finished product, ours was up the road. But that's how it looks in the end.

Making Mortar, passing bricks - gotta love it.

Our very dis-functional work site, but quite a memorable experience.

Cutting Wood - it was this labour that kept me from freezing my bumb off, i swear i don't know how Kenneth is not wearing a jacket!

A VERY good trip. I love China. :) 我爱中国
